Dalla was known around the world for his most famous song, ‘Caruso’ – covered by Italian operatic tenor Luciano Pavarotti.
Dalla began his career as a jazz musician and clarinet player, before becoming successful in the 1970s. His career spanned more than 50 years, during which time he became an Italian pop icon.
The singer passed away in Montreux, Switzerland in the early hours of Thursday morning after suffering a fatal heart attack. He was in the country on tour and had performed on Wednesday night, according to Swiss media.
Tributes poured in from fellow musicians and politicians all over Italy.
